Junior Coaching Grants

GRANTS FOR JUNIOR COACHING.

A CGF PROPOSAL TO MEMBER CLUBS.

The Cyprus Golf Federation, CGF, has devised a system of "part funding" for Junior Coaching. This new scheme will come into effect starting September 1st. 2006

The funding is currently available, by application, to all Golf Clubs who are members, be they full or associate, of the The CGF.

Out of an R&A Grant that was awarded, the CGF is able to "part fund" group coaching and also provide FREE training materials from the world renowned "Junior Golf Passport Scheme". In giving this grant the R&A stipulated that this funding be used to "introduce" golf to as many children as possible who may otherwise not discover our wonderful game for themselves.

The CGF after long research and evaluation of many golf teaching programmes, by it's Junior Golf Coordinator, selected to use the Junior Golf Passport Scheme, which is the scheme for which part funding is being made available.

It will be necessary for your club to adopt the Junior Golf Passport Scheme for which we will provide, FREE OF CHARGE, to all clubs who receive a grant the training and reward materials needed to run the scheme.

The golf Federation is able to "part fund" the group coaching of 10/12 children up to the value of 15 per child, to a maximum total of 180 for a complete program of six one and a half hour lessons.

For the scheme to work financially it would be expected that each group formed consist of between 10 and 12 children (but NO MORE than 12). Whilst it would be preferable that the coaching be run by a Golf Pro with an amateur assistant the absence of a qualified pro would not necessarily preclude a club from benefiting from the scheme.

If your own scheme does not have the luxury of 2/3 people teaching we would recommend no more than 8 children per course. In these circumstances an adjustment of time spent by the pro to one hour would help re balance the funding.

From the experience gained by the CGF it is a requirement that the children contribute something towards the scheme, preferably a further 15 per child per course. However if your clubs circumstances and costings enable you to run the scheme cheaper than anticipated then a lower contribution from the children is acceptable as long as it is NOT FREE AT DELIVERY (as per CGF & EGU recommendations). An exception to this contribution requirement is permissible for children whose family circumstances would

otherwise prevent them from participating in the coaching scheme, but CGF clearance is required.

To participate in the scheme each trainees name address and parent phone number must be provided to The CGF for safety, registration and audit purposes. Funds and materials will not be released until this requirement is met.

Subject to funding being available in any given year, additional support may be forthcoming "by application" to enable the further advancement of your training groups. This additional funding will have an element of achievement attached to it. To measure this achievement the CGF Junior Coordinator must be kept informed on the performance of each group and their achievements. From time to time he may well visit a club to observe the way the scheme is implemented.

The CGF may in the future, if funding is available, be able to assist in advertising your courses and the costs of an occasional open day. Again this will also be by application.

All applications for participating in this scheme should be addressed to Terry Scott the CGF Junior Coordinator.

We hope that all on-island golf clubs will avail themselves of this offer. To discuss the above please contact Terry Scott on 99 382561 or email him at terryscott@hotmail.co.uk.
