Description of Aphrodite Hills Golf Course by its Architect Cabell Robinson

Aphrodite Hills Golf is a Championship 18 hole golf course overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, halfway between the cities of Paphos and Limassol. Together with a 3 hole Golf Academy and other comprehensive training facilities (double ended covered Driving Range, Short Game Area and large putting green) it is integrated in an award winning Resort that incorporates the Intercontinental Hotel, a luxurious SPA, a Tennis Academy and luxurious villas and apartments

Measuring 6.299 meters from the back Tees, and with a par 71/70, it is a fascinating golf course worth to play.

Nothing better to describe it than the words of its architect, Cabell Robinson:

"I first visited the site of Aphrodite Hills nearly 20 years ago and I was immediately impressed with the inherent potential of this land to become one of Europe's great golf courses. Apart from the wonderful views out to sea from so many holes, the striking feature of the site is the deep canyon that separates two plateaus. The problem was to incorporate this gorge into the course design, and how to cross it. A clever network of car paths solved it, and in addition, the descent down to the 7th tee is an adventure in itself.

We were fortunate in that the site was fairly well covered with carob and olive trees, and fine native grass out in the rough, that turns golden in late summer, and completes a simple but elegant landscape palette which I found extremely pleasing to the eye. With a little additional planting the holes were "Mediterranean mature" on completion.

I have kept the fairways spaciously wide between trees, the greens on the large size, and both men and women have two sets of tees to choose from to match your capabilities. Challenge it from the very tips however, and in a bit of breeze, that can be a whole different story.

Although I refer very diplomatically to the question of what is my favorite hole, if you carry 200 meters with your driver you should try the back tee of the 3rd hole. It is a thrill of a lifetime shot if you succeed. The 7th deep with the bowels of the canyon is another dramatic shot, while fantastic see views are to be had at the 8th and 15th holes.

Aphrodite Hills is the culmination of my 35 years designing golf courses, and I rate it among my very best work.

Cabell Robinson
